Amy says goodbye~

Hi, guys! I'm not sure how many of you still follow, but I'm posting this anyways since I feel Amy's Book Den deserves a proper goodbye post.

We've had a long and fun run since June 2011 when I first discovered the amazing online world of book blogging. It took me a while to figure things out, but soon enough, I had created this little space of book heaven to share with the world. 2012 was all kinds of awesome. I did giveaways, interviewed debut authors like Marissa Meyer, A.C. Gaughen, Robin LaFevers, and Helen Keeble who have produced some of my favorite books and book series, featured my amazing Seton Hill Classmates, participated in book tours and promoted talented self-published authors, and gained a substantial amount of followers (I'm still in awe of the number ♥ ). But as the demands of grad school grew, I had less and less time to read and much less time to review. In 2013, I tried to keep up with the demands of everything, but my frustration grew as the weeks passed. I knew I wasn't giving Amy's Book Den the attention it deserved, but I just didn't have the time or mindset to work with it anymore. I'm very thankful to Mary who came to my rescue and did some reviews to share here with us while I decided on what to do...

And my final decision was to close Amy's Book Den.

It wasn't easy coming to that conclusion, but I've made up my mind and this is why...

After two years and a half of pursuing a MFA degree in Writing Popular Fiction from Seton Hill University, I finally graduated this past June 29! *throws confetti* I've grown as a reader, a writer, a bookworm, and a person. I've achieved my goals, but that just means now I have new ones, and unfortunately they do not include keeping up with the daily demands of a book blog. I want to do so many other things--write more novels, explore other genres, read more, pursue publishing, apply for an editing or translating jobs, actually maintain my author blog--and spending hours keeping up with all of this here will not help me achieve any of those.

I am extremely thankful to all the readers and followers of Amy's Book Den, to all the authors who let me feature them and their work here, to Xpresso Book Tours and her extremely well organized tours, and to NetGalley for providing me with delicious ARCs. Amy's Book Den would not have been the same without all of you!

While I will no longer be updating Amy's Book Den, I will keep the facebook page, where I'll continue posting random bookish things occasionally, and my Goodreads account, where I'll keep rating books even if I don't write full reviews for them. You can also check out my Author Blog for random movie reviews and my writer thoughts.

Once again, thank you all so much for this experience!
Goodbye~

I haven't read any of Kiersten's new work since Paranormalcy, but I keep adding the books to my TBR list. I don't know. There's something about her stories and the blurbs that calls to me. I definitely need more time to read!

Genre: YA Contemporary Romance
Buy: AmazonB&N

Dive into the fabulous, fun lives of six Academy girls as their friendships are tested, torn and ultimately triumph…

Emma has it all – looks, money, and luck. It’s not like she keeps it all to herself – she’s totally committed to helping those less fortunate. AKA, everyone. She invites her heartbroken friend to help with a weekend charity event with an eye to matchmake, but when that friend turns her eye toward the guy Emma wants for herself, how will she choose between friendship and her own feelings?

* * *

The last thing that the girls at the elite Jane Austen Academy need is hot guys to flirt with. But over the summer the school has been sold, and like it or not, the guys are coming. And it’s about to turn the Academy—and the lives of its students—totally upside down…

The Jane Austen Academy series are modern retellings of Jane Austen classics set at a beachside California boarding school.

Playlist

The perfect song to describe Emma's attitude.

Best Day of My Life by American Authors

Emma wakes up every morning convinced today is going to be the best day ever. That's just who she is.

The perfect song to describe how Emma and Knight feel about each other.

Say Something by A Great Big World

They both wrestle with their feelings for each other, but each is waiting for the other person to admit it first. Only drawback: the song is so angsty, so I can't even, and Emma isn't an angsty kind of girl. She might wallow or be depressed but she's always going to pick herself up and move on because that's who she is.

The perfect song to describe Knight's anxiety about being in love with Emma.

Sleeping With A Friend by Neon Trees

Okay so they're not sleeping together but Knight's obviously been thinking about it. A lot. And angsting over it. Of the two, he's the angstier one, for sure.

The perfect song to describe Anne's deal.

Girls Chase Boys by Ingrid Michaelson

Emma is trying to help her friend, Anne, get over a guy she broke up with but is still in love with. Anne is trying to play it cool, kind of like this song, but failing miserably.

The perfect song to the entire JANE AUSTEN ACADEMY series.

Brave by Sara Bareilles

I think the song pretty much says it all.

Cecilia Gray lives in the San Francisco Bay Area where she reads, writes and breaks for food. She also pens her biographies in the third person. Like this. As if to trick you into thinking someone else wrote it because she is important. Alas, this is not the case. She’s rather enamored of being contacted by readers and hopes you’ll oblige.

Book Tour: Cutlass by Ashley Nixon (Excerpt + Giveaway)

Cutlass
(Cutlass Series #1)
Author: Ashley Nixon
Publication date: April 23rd 2014
Genre: YA Fantasy
Buy: PaperbackKindle

Notorious pirate Barren Reed has one thing on his mind: Revenge against the man who killed his father. So kidnapping his enemy’s fiancé seems a perfect plan…until he actually does it.

Larkin Lee is more than a pretty face and fiancé to a powerful man. Her fierce personality is enough to make any pirate want to push her overboard.

But when the King of the Orient comes to Barren with a task—to find the Bloodstone, a powerful gem thought only to exist in legend, Barren sees another opportunity to destroy his enemy. Together, Barren, Larkin and a crew of pirates set off to find the stone, only to discover it caused the death of Barren’s own mother and Larkin’s, too. As his strongest allies turn into his greatest enemies, and the life of the girl he kidnapped becomes more important than he ever dreamed, Barren’s quest for revenge becomes a fight to save the Orient.
Excerpt

“It is required by the code that I kill any privateers I come into contact with—a waste, really. You were brave.”

Barren moved his arm back and thrust the blade toward the young lord. Larkin moved quickly, snatching Leaf’s cutlass from his hand, she deflected Barren's sword and stood between the two.

“No!” she cried fiercely. “You will spare him!”

“You do not command me!” Barren’s voice was deadly.

“What would you gain from his death?”

“He cannot be trusted!”

“You've spent all your life killing the wrong people! How many more lives will you take to pay for one?”

Barren let his blade fall to his side. His gaze seared her, and he could tell she was afraid. Her eyes were wide, and she breathed heavily, but her hands tightened on the hilt of Leaf’s blade. For a moment, he wanted to end her life. Then he would have no more interferences, but he knew he couldn’t. He took a step toward her, eyes narrowing.

“Move,” he commanded. Larkin glared up at him and shook her head. Barren tightened his jaw.

“It's okay, Larkin,” she heard Jonathan's voice. “Move.”

Barren watched as she turned to face Jonathan. Because she was distracted, Leaf was able to reach forward and pull her away from the scene, ripping the blade from her hands.

Barren stepped forward, repositioned himself before the man and pointed the sword at Jonathan’s neck. All Barren had to do was push ever so slightly and blood would pool on the ground, a terrible gurgling sound that would fill the air. Larkin would scream—scream that he was a monster. Only now, she would see it, she would really know it.

Ashley was born and raised in Oklahoma, where the wind really does sweep down the plains, and horses and carriages aren’t used as much as she’d like. When she’s not writing, she’s hard at work on her Master’s degree in Library Science and Information Technology, working out, or pretending she’s Sherlock Holmes. Her obsession with writing began after reading the Lord of the Rings in the eighth grade. Since then, she’s loved everything Fantasy–resulting in an unhealthy obsession with the ‘geek’ tab on Pinterest, where all things awesome go.

Finding It
by Cora Carmack

He slid closer to me, and I felt the flow of the water around me change. My body instantly responded to his closeness, and his cocky smile told me he could tell. His arm brushed my chest, and the tips of my breasts tightened. I made a strangled sound somewhere between the wheezing of a fat asthmatic and the squeak of a dog's chew toy. In other words, the noise that came out of my mouth was light-years away from being sexy. He chuckled and kept reaching past me to extend his hand to Jenny. With his body invading my space, and my face close enough to him that I could see close-up the stubble on his jaw, he focused on her. "Hello, I'm Hunt. It's nice to meet you."
