Here we go again …

Just when it seems life at Mythos Academy can’t get any more dangerous, the Reapers of Chaos manage to prove me wrong. It was just a typical night at the Library of Antiquities — until a Reaper tried to poison me. The good news is I’m still alive and kicking. The bad news is the Reaper poisoned someone else instead.

As Nike’s Champion, everyone expects me to lead the charge against the Reapers, even though I’m still hurting over what happened with Spartan warrior Logan Quinn. I’ve got to get my hands on the antidote fast — otherwise, an innocent person will die. But the only known cure is hidden in some creepy ruins — and the Reapers are sure to be waiting for me there …

It turns out that Gwen doesn’t need to go out hunting for Reapers, because they seem intent on coming to her. Things get really serious when one of them infiltrates the Library of Antiquities and tries poisoning Gwen. But the attempt goes awry and Nickamedes ends up taking the Serket sap. With the only possible cure miles away, high up in a mountain guarded by griffons, it’s up to Gwen and her friends to gear up and purposefully walk into what’s no doubt a Reaper’s trap to save Nick. Logan is nowhere to be seen yet, but Gwen isn’t about to sit around moping and waiting for him.

Jennifer Estep blows my mind once again with this really incredible mix of mythologies she’s created. Just when I think that nothing else could surprise me, she comes out with another element from myth and completely mesmerizes me.

I really loved Gwen in this book. In previous books, she’s shown time and time again how brave she is—and maybe a bit reckless too—but I could definitely feel her confidence pouring out of the pages in this one. Gwen was like, “Imma kill some Reapers.” And I was like, “GET EM GURL.” Because I knew she could and would. I also loved how she dealt with the Logan situation. She misses him, wishes he’s there, but at no point in the story does that stop her from doing her mission and living her life. Can I get a ‘hell yes’ for YA heroines like this? Thank you.

Logan. I hate you. And by that, I mean I love your perfect timing, your gorgeous smile, and your stubbornness!

On top of all the awesomeness of the quest for the antidote and the Logan drama, I was very surprised to get more of Gwen’s background, specifically about her father and that side of the family. It’s something I had been wondering for a while now and it was excellent timing. I am so excited to read the last book in this series, Killer Frost, and see how Gwen’s epic tale ends.

~Spartan Girl~
Twang!
Even as I started to move, I knew I couldn’t duck out of the way in time to keep the arrow from hitting me—
Something moved off to my right, a shadow flitted in front of my eyes, and I heard the distinct sound of wood hitting flesh. I blinked.
Smack!
The arrow had stopped a foot from my face.
Eyes wide, my head snapped to the side, and I realized that the angry girl from the train station was there—and that she was holding the arrow in her hand like it was a football she’d just plucked out of midair.
“You’re welcome,” she said in a snide voice.
Then, she tossed the arrow up in the air, grabbed it by the end, and threw it at the Reaper with the crossbow.
The arrow sunk into his throat.

~Vic~
“Well, naturally,” the sword crowed, his voice swelling with price. “I do put the art in artifact.”
I looked down at him. “Really?” I whispered. “You’re really going to talk about how awesome you are at a time like this?”
“Certainly,” Vic said. “Why wouldn’t I?”
