Vote Alex! and Deity Cover Reveal

Alright my lovelies!

Today's YA Tournament of Heroines Match 11 is Nora from Becca Fitzpatric Hush Hush series VS Alex from Jennifer L. Armentrout's Covenant series. My vote goes to Alex of course. She's brave, she's fierce, she's badass, and a million other things like her advocate has described here. If all these reasons are not enough for you, here is another....

Jennifer L. Armentrout has promised to post an an EXTRA SCENE between Alex and Aiden between Half-Blood and Pure if Alex wins the match!

Who wants to read that!?

I DO!

YOU DO!

So remember, Tweet it (#HALFBLOODLEGION and #ALEXCOVENANT), Facebook it, Grab a Button, Blog it, just remember to...

And if that is still not enough...
Here's the cover for Deity (Covenant 3)!
So digging the red ♥

Is it me or the covers keep getting better and better?!

Musing Mondays (16) &It's Monday! (12)

Musing Mondays is a meme hosted by Should Be Reading.
 This week’s musing is…
What kind of books do you like to read? Why? Provide specific examples.

I've said it before and I'll say it again! I'm a sucker for romance. So if there's a sure way a book will get my attention is by having a heart wrenching romance, or just a spark of it. That being said I'll read almost any genre as long as it has romance in it; YA, Dystopia, Sci-fi, Urban Fantasy, and, of course, Paranormal Romances. There are always too many to mention, so I'll just stick to examples from this year.

Divergent by Veronica Roth (YA Dystopia): Give it up for the favorite book of 2011, and best Dystopia ever!

Tankborn by Karen Sandler (YA Sci-Fi): this is what I like to call a rare find, because it was by chance that I stumbled across it and I'm so happy that I found it! This is one amazing sci-fi/dystopia full of creativity and originality.

The Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa (YA Faeries): I've said it in all my reviews, Julie you have rocked my world with this series. Amy the unbeliever of faeries now believes thanks to you. Meghan, Puck, Ash, Grimalkin, I believe in you guys!

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout (YA Paranormal Romance): if you experience severe heart palpitations, sudden rush of heat through your body, and loss of breath, let me assure you this is a completely normal reaction to Daemon Black ♥

Jane True by Nicole Peeler (Adult Urban Fantasy): It's not like I don't read adult books (I have all the Anita Blake novels) it's just I didn't realize this was an adult book until the scene. LOL. All in all Jane True is hilarious, so I love the series for that.

Review: Soul Protector by Amanda Leigh Cowley

Soul Protector
Author: Amanda Leigh Cowley
Publisher: YouWriteOn, 2011
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Buy: AmazonB&N

After being dragged on a night out to celebrate a friend's birthday, Gracie discovers a unique talent. Doubting her sanity, she keeps it to herself while she tries to make sense of it, but unaware of her visible aura, she gets abducted by Dan; a handsome monitor. Once he establishes Gracie didn't know what she was doing, he helps her to recover before introducing her to the world of the Soul Protector.

Finally understanding the rules of being a Soul Protector, Gracie finds the courage needed to embrace her special gift. But she is unaware a secret from the past is waiting to catch up with her; one that will shock her to the core.

My Review:
Gracie has been in a depressed funk of self imposed isolation since her boyfriend dumped her for her little sister. It’s in this state of mind she attends a friend’s birthday party. She can’t help but feel a bit jealous, whishing she could somehow switch bodies with her friend and have her seemingly perfect life. What Gracie finds out is that her wish could somehow come true when she accidentally switches bodies! This is how she meets Dan, an extremely sexy monitor, who introduces her to the unbelievable world of Soul Protectors. Gracie will have a tough time dealing with her work, her love problems, and her newly found powers.

The story started at a fast pace, but then it quickly started to lag with too many flashbacks and Gracie’s life issues. I was so interested in the whole Soul Protector thing, that I was disappointed when it got sort of pushed aside until the last third of the book when it picks up again with Gracie’s decision. Luckily Gracie was such fun to read, especially when she’s around Dan whom she describes as “chivalrous and dominant.” I wouldn’t have minded a couple of more Dan appearances, since it seems Gracie falls in love with him over a short period of time.
Overall I found the story quite entertaining, however I would have liked the setting to be clearly stated; only by the words ‘tube’ and ‘Brighton’ was I able to deduce this is set in England. Also, her age is never mentioned, so I had trouble visualizing Gracie. And this being a paranormal romance, I expected much much more romance. Maybe it’s just that I feel miffed at not having more Dan time. A seriously great plot idea, but I just wished the storyline was more.

*I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review*

Favorite Quotes:
“Good, you’re looking much better,” he said, his dark eyes twinkling as he smiled. He reached out to put a hand on my forehead, obviously to check my temperature, and I’m sure he sent it escalating another ten degrees. I was glad he didn’t have a stethoscope to hand, or he would have known something was up.

“Welcome to the Office,” said Dan. “I’m guessing it’s not quite the tin pot operation you were expecting?”
“Uh no, it’s the opposite of what I was expecting. Now tell me, is your boss sat in a private room somewhere with a fluffy white cat on his lap?”
~
He had on dark grey trousers and a crisp white shirt with the sleeves rolled up revealing strong, tanned arms. They were amazing arms, I thought, lost in my fantasies for a moment, perfect for chopping wood and dragging me into his cave.
