Waiting on Wednesday (68)

Hosted at Breaking the Spine, spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am eagerly waiting for...

Nobody
Jennifer Lynn Barnes
January 22 2013

There are people in this world who are Nobody. No one sees them. No one notices them. They live their lives under the radar, forgotten as soon as you turn away.

That’s why they make the perfect assassins.

The Institute finds these people when they’re young and takes them away for training. But an untrained Nobody is a threat to their organization. And threats must be eliminated.

Sixteen-year-old Claire has been invisible her whole life, missed by the Institute’s monitoring. But now they’ve ID’ed her and send seventeen-year-old Nix to remove her. Yet the moment he lays eyes on her, he can’t make the hit. It’s as if Claire and Nix are the only people in the world for each other. And they are—because no one else ever notices them.
Why am I waiting for it?
What can I say. I see the word assassin on a blurb and I can’t help myself. Need to read.

Teaser Tuesday (67)

Hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading

Before I Wake
by Rachel Vincent

~Emma~
“Back off, vultures!” she shouted, and I exhaled in relief as she pushed her way to the center of the crowd. “She just got out of the hospital. Why don’t you go gossip behind her back, like decent people?”

~Clothing Optional~
Tod scowled. “Fine. But if I have to stay invisible the whole time, I can’t promise to be on my best behavior. There’s no telling what I might do…I mean, if no one can see me, anyway, why bother with clothes at all?”
I laughed, trying to disguise the sudden curious heat settling into my face. “Well, that ought to spice up the lunch period.”

Musing Mondays (56) &It's Monday! (54)

 Hosted by Should Be Reading.
 This week’s musing is…

~Do you have people online that you often discuss the books you read with? Not just book groups, but individual readers who share the same taste in books? If so, what do you like best about this? If not, do you wish you did?~

Yes and No. Yes, my friends from the Writing Popular Fiction Program at SHU discuss books with me, both for class and for fun. I discuss books with a critique partner too. But I don't have individual readers outside that university circle. Well...I could count my mom. I've gotten her hooked on a couple of YA series and urban fantasy too ^___^

Author: Julie Kagawa
Publisher: Harlequin Teen, 2012
Genre: YA Paranormal

Ethan thought he had protected himself from his older sister's world—the land of Faery. His previous time in the Iron Realm left him with nothing but fear and disgust for the world Meghan Chase has made her home, a land of myths and talking cats, of magic and seductive enemies. But when destiny comes for Ethan, there is no escape from a danger long, long forgotten.

My name is Ethan Chase. And I may not live to see my eighteenth birthday.

Greta and the Goblin King
Chloe Jacobs
November 13 2012

To survive, 17-year-old Greta has hidden her humanity and taken the job of bounty hunter—and she’s good at what she does. So good, she’s caught the attention of Mylena’s young Goblin King, the darkly enticing Isaac, who invades her dreams and undermines her determination to escape. But Greta’s not the only one looking to get out of Mylena. The full moon is mere days away, and an ancient evil being knows she’s the key to opening the portal. If Greta fails, she and the boys she finds stranded in the woods will die. If she succeeds, no world will be safe from what follows her back . . .

The Lost Prince
by Julie Kagawa

~Ethan & Kenzie~
“Will you give me that interview?”
“Okay, yes, fine!” I raised a hand in frustration. “If it will get you off my back, fine.”
          She beamed. “When?”
          “I don’t care.”
That didn’t faze her. Nothing did, it seemed. I’d never met someone who could be so relentlessly cheerful in the face of such blatant jack-assery.

Her opponents are men—thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the kings council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.

Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.
