Finding It
by Cora Carmack

He slid closer to me, and I felt the flow of the water around me change. My body instantly responded to his closeness, and his cocky smile told me he could tell. His arm brushed my chest, and the tips of my breasts tightened. I made a strangled sound somewhere between the wheezing of a fat asthmatic and the squeak of a dog's chew toy. In other words, the noise that came out of my mouth was light-years away from being sexy. He chuckled and kept reaching past me to extend his hand to Jenny. With his body invading my space, and my face close enough to him that I could see close-up the stubble on his jaw, he focused on her. "Hello, I'm Hunt. It's nice to meet you."

Faking It
by Cora Carmack

She took a shuddering breath, and then stood to face the woman I supposed was her mother. I rose with her, and let my arm stretch across her shoulder. She seemed frazzled, which was funny, because up until now confidence was practically running out of her pores like honey.

I mean, she'd asked a complete stranger to pretend to be her boyfriend. She had seemed fearless. Parents were apparently her Kryptonite.

Loosing It
by Cora Carmack

"Oh, I burned my leg, and I'm not supposed to wear tight clothing over it."
"Seriously?" He asked. "What happened?"
I couldn't exactly tell him the real reason. Because then he'd want to know whose motorcycle it had been and why I had been with them and yadda, yadda.
"Oh, I burned it with my straightener."
"You burned your leg with your straightener? How long is your leg hair?"

Killer Frost
by Jennifer Estep

~All or Nothing~
The next morning, I went about my routines as if everything was normal. As if I wasn’t planning to steal perhaps the most important artifact known to the Pantheon. As if I wasn’t going to turn said artifact over to the Reapers. As if I wasn’t going to make Loki stronger.

As if I might not be dead by noon.

Love and Cupcakes
by Susan Bishop Crispell

“Eight hundred forty-two,” Jack said when Graham came in later that morning.

“Dalmatians?” Graham asked.

“The number of cupcakes it will take to make Harper’s Twilight masterpiece.”

Midnight Frost
by Jennifer Estep

~Spartan Girl~

Twang!

Even as I started to move, I knew I couldn’t duck out of the way in time to keep the arrow from hitting me—

Something moved off to my right, a shadow flitted in front of my eyes, and I heard the distinct sound of wood hitting flesh. I blinked.

Smack!

The arrow had stopped a foot from my face.

Eyes wide, my head snapped to the side, and I realized that the angry girl from the train station was there—and that she was holding the arrow in her hand like it was a football she’d just plucked out of midair.

“You’re welcome,” she said in a snide voice.

Then, she tossed the arrow up in the air, grabbed it by the end, and threw it at the Reaper with the crossbow.

The arrow sunk into his throat.

Lady Thief
by A.C. Gaughen

~Love~

“They call me Marian, Rob, and they act with so little honor to call them nobility.” I pushed my head to his. “They took my name, Rob.”

His lips touched mine again, more puffed and soft now, burning against mine. When he stopped he didn’t go nowhere, speaking straight into my mouth. “They can have your name. I know who you are, with or without it. And I won’t ever let you lose that. My love. My Scarlet.”

I pressed a kiss to his mouth. “Say it once more?” I asked.

He kissed me. “Scarlet,” he breathed. Another kiss. “Scarlet.”

Alienated
by Melissa Landers

~Friends tell friends when the alien wants to~

“Give him a break; he hasn’t done anything wrong.”
“Hasn’t done anything wrong that you know of. Come on, Care. He’s a total creeper and he’s up to something. Besides, I don’t like the way he looks at you.”
“Huh?” Cara spun around with a belt in one hand and a skirt in the other. “How does he look at me?”
Tori raised a black brow. Then she made a circle with one hand and stuck her index finger through it in an X-rated puppet show. “Like he wants to dock his ship inside your spaceport.

The False Princess
by Eilis O'Neal

"Still," I continued, "we don't have to worry about that until we find the princess. And to do that, I think we need to know if it's Neomar or Melaina we're dealing with. She said that she wished her family had been able to attend her investiture. So maybe she's related to one of them."

"But how can we find that out, without walking up to them and asking, 'So, your sister wasn't the oracle who betrayed Thorvaldor, was she?' I think, maybe, that might make them suspicious."

Kinslayer
(The Lotus War 2)
by Jay Kristoff

~The girl all Guildsmen fear~
“Run back to your masters. Tell them what you saw here. And you tell them the next time they send a sky-ship near the Ishi Mountains, I'm going to carve my father's name into her captain's chest before I paint the sky with his insides. Do you understand me?"
Jubei nodded. "I do..."

She pressed on his neck, her blade sinking a little farther in. Jubei gasped, not daring to move, blood welling and running down his throat. For an awful, terrifying moment, he could see it in her face' the desier to simply open him up, ear to ear, to bathe in the spray of his carotid and jugular, lathering the bloody froth from his windpipe on her hands. Her lips peeled back from her teeth, blade twitching in his flesh, looking over him like a terror from some children's story, some nightmare sprung inexplicably to life.

The girl all Guildsmen fear.

"Please," he whispered. "Please..."

Fangirl
by Rainbow Rowell

~Nerves and Desire~

“Come home with me,” he whispered back.

“To your den of iniquity?”

“Yes, that’s what everyone calls my room.”

“Gah,” Cath said. “I’ve told you. It’s just too much…your house. Your room. We’ll walk in, and all that will be in there is a bed. And I’ll throw up from nerves.”

“And desire?”

“Mostly nerves,” she said.

[...]

“What if I promise not to touch you?”

Cath laughed. “Now I have zero incentive to come.”

“What if I promise to let you touch me first?”

“Are you kidding? I’m the untrustworthy person in this relationship. I’m all hands.”

“I’ve seen no evidence of that, Cather.”

“In my head, I’m all hands.”

“I want to live in your head.”

by Anna Banks

~Fishy cuss~
Mom’s head jerks around to the back window. She curses under her breath. “Who is that woman? How did she find us?”
“She’s ex-Mafia.” I inhale, like I just admitted I’m ex-Mafia or something. It doesn’t help that Mom glares at me as if I just confessed it, too.
“Seriously, ex-Mafia? Like, the Mafia?”
I nod.
“Poseidon’s beard,” she mutters

Wilde Nights in Paradise
by Tonya Burrows

~Manly Scream~
“Well?” she prompted.
“I feel ridiculous.”
“You should.” And she probably shouldn’t take so much delight in the fact that his ears had turned bright red, but…honestly, it was adorable. She would have dialed down her teasing if he wasn’t laughing at himself right along with her. “You screamed like a little girl.”
“Bullshit.” He finally looked up with an expression of mock horror. “It was a manly scream.”
“Very manly,” she said and patted his hand.

Splintered
by A.G. Howard

~Chatty Bugs~
I’ve been collecting bugs since I was ten; it’s the only way I can stop their whispers. Sticking a pin through the gut of an insect shuts it up pretty quick.
Some of my victims line the walls in shadow boxes, while others get sorted into mason jars and placed on a bookshelf for later use. Crickets, beetles, spiders…bees and butterflies. I’m not picky. Once they get chatty, they’re fair game.

INK
by Amanda Sun

~Missed Kiss~
He walked to ward me slowly, his leather shoes pressing down the long grasses. I could feel his breath on my cheek as he leaned forward. My eyes fluttered shut, but I forced them open again. His breath was hot against my lips, and his face blotted out the sky, so I could see nothing but his eyes and the pores of his skin.
“Because,” he said in tones of honey and velvet, “I’ve always had to push away people I care about. You’re the only one who ever pushed back.”
The words brushed against my lips and sent the butterflies tumbling again. He’s going to kiss me, he’s going to—
He leaned back and patted me on the head. My cheeks turned tomato-red as I glared at him.
He blinked and stared back, looking completely innocent. “What?” he said. He took another look at me and burst out laughing. “Did you think I was going to…?” He folded his arms, pressing his fingertips against the insides of his elbows as he laughed.
“I’m glad you think it’s so funny,” I fumed. Why the hell could he always pull one over on me?

Dark Triumph
by Robin LaFevers

~Talking shop~
“How would you have done it?”
His question surprises me. “You mean how would I have killed you?”
“Yes. Do you have a favorite method for such things?”
Since he knows I am an assassin, there is no need to be coy. “I prefer a garrote. I like the intimacy it allows me when I whisper reminders of vengance in their ears as they die. But in your case, I had sharpened my favorite knife especially for the occasion.”
His brows quirk up. “Why no garrote for me?”
I look pointedly at his thick neck, bulging with muscle and sinew. “I do not have one big enough,” I mutter. “Besides, yours was to be a merciful death. A knife is quicker and less painful.” If I thought my confession would shock him into putting some distance between us, I was sorely mistaken, for the great lummox laughs.

Apollyon
by Jennifer L. Armentrout

~Solution to a fight~
“I would never give up on you, Alex. Never.”
“Then why are you being such a—”
“What?” His voice dropped low. “I’m being what?”
Infuriating. Stubborn. Thick-skulled. Freaking sexy. “Good gods, can we stop arguing and just, I don’t know, make out?”
A deep, husky laugh rumbled through his body and teased mine. “Is that what you want?”
More than the air I breathed.

When I'm With You
by Cecilia Gray

~Brain Fizzle~
Kat reached over the counter and nabbed a bit of scrambled egg. Henry made to slap her hand away but grabbed it instead and pulled her over the counter toward him.
Her breath caught as he smiled at her.
“I’ve never had a girl overnight in my house before this,” he said. “I kind of like it.”
“What’s not to like?”
“I want to kiss you.”
Her brain fizzled for a moment before she pulled away and said teasingly, “Yeah, well, get in line.”

Poison
by Bridget Zinn

~Socks~
“Wait,” Kyra said, sitting up in alarm. “How did she find us? We’re miles away from the witch.”
“No idea.”
“Fred,” Kyra said tentatively, “you didn’t remove anything from the witch’s house, did you?”
“What do you take me for?”
“Kyra cocked her head.”
“She did give me some warm socks before she went and got you.”
“Fred!”
“What? My feet were cold. You should have seen the holes in my other socks!”

The Collector
by Victoria Scott

~Dirty, like me~
I’m sporting my black Boss dress shirt—sleeves rolled up, of course—dark jeans, and my red Chucks. Even sprayed on my favorite scent, Safari. Because it’s dirty, like me. If Charlie doesn’t dig my get up, I’ll expose her for what she is: asexual.

~Wicked~
I make sure to give her a good view of my tats as I drag on my jeans: the dragon covering my back and the tree stemming from my elbow, growing up my bicep, and branching over my shoulder. The tree is barren and completely wicked. I know, because I specifically told the tat guy that I wanted it to look wicked.
