Celaena has returned from her training, and after the beating she suffered, she is ready to move out of the Assassin’s Keep. But Arobynn is not ready to let her go. He’s sorry about what happened and tried to bribe her on staying with jewels and a job. One that Celaena can’t turn down, because it means ending the slave trade between two countries. Her newly honed assassin skills will be put to the test. But the deeper she digs the more confusing it gets. What happens when you’ve been fed the wrong information?

Once again Celaena will have to work with Sam. During her stay in the Red Desert she missed him, and her feelings for him seem to have changed, only she doesn’t know if it’s a good or a bad thing. Will Sam’s kind and sweet gestures make her realize what her heart knew from that fated day in Skull Island?

Best scene: the sewers…trust me.

An assassin without a job is no one. This is the bitter truth that Celaena and Sam have found out now that they’ve moved out of the Assassin’s Keep. He is trying to bring in money by fighting in underground matches, something that  makes Celaena furious. What if he gets hurt? Yet, Sam is trying to do good by her. She is having trouble adapting to her new life, and continues clinging on to luxury. When an independent contract to take out the baddest duo of criminals in town, Sam jumps in. Though Celaena fears the outcome, she goes along, because completing the job means a future with Sam.

The stakes are high in this final Throne Glass Novella. Celaena and Sam’s love and protectiveness of each other made my heart ache. They sometimes went about things the wrong way, like not trusting each other and being protective to the point of stifling one another. I could still see they both had the best intentions, which is why the ending tore me apart. I could…I just…I didn’t believe it.

Best scene: The morgue.

Overall these novella’s have been a complete journey, one that I didn’t want to end, a full cast of interesting characters I didn’t want to say goodbye (see you later?) to, and a fantasy world that made me remember exactly why I love fantasy so much. August 7 and Throne of Glass cannot get here fast enough!

Favorite Quotes:

~Novella 3~
“I love you,” he repeated, shakign her again. “I have for years. And he hurt you and made me watch because he’s always known how I felt, too. But if I asked you to pick, you’d choose Arobynn, and I. Can’t. Take. It.”
The only sounds were their breathing, an uneven beat against the rushing of the sewer river.
“You’re a damned idiot,” she breathed, grabbing the front of his tunic. “You’re a moron and an ass and a damned idiot.”

~Novella 4~
She was fire, she was darkness, she was dust and blood and shadow.
