Musing Mondays (26) &It's Monday! (22)

 Hosted by Should Be Reading.
 This week’s musing is…

Do you read books that are part of a series?
Yes, actually I prefer reading series than standalones. Though I read The Night Circus by Erin Morgernstern, which is a standalone, and I love love LOVED it.

Do you collect all the books in the series before starting?
I used to do that. Get the whole series, but a couple of times I'd start reading and not like it at all. What I usually do now is I'll get book one in the series, then if I'm half-way through it and I'm absolutely loving it, I'll go ahead and order the rest.

What if the series is brand new, and the only book that’s been published so far is Book one?
Haha if the series is brand new I'll still get the debut novel, then proceed to complain how long I'll have to wait until the next book comes out. It sucks, but that's the way it is.

As subsequent books in the series are published, do you go back and re-read the preceding books?
Oh, I wish I had the time! I usually don't, so I have to go searching for reviews of the book or summaries in wikipedia to refresh my memory. lol! There has been the occasional time where I have gone back and re-read entire series, like Harry Potter. Mom got The Chamber of Secrets for me, and I read it, and then realized it was book 2. So I made her look for the rest, but at the time they only had until book 3. So for the next four HP book releases, I would go back and re-read everything. LOL I know, that's a lot of re-reading. Plus I re-read them for the movies too!
There's also this High Fantasy series called Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson. It's the first series I ever read and I got it when there was only book 1 out. The whole series is 10 books long, with each book being 600 to 1000+ pages long, so I couldn't go back and re-read with each release. But now that it's complete I think I will take a entire month off everything just so I can read the whole thing. Seriously, its worth it.
