Destiny's FireAuthor: Trisha WolfePublisher: Omnific Publishing, 2012Genre: YA Steampunk Mythology
It’s the year 2040, and sixteen-year-old Dez Harkly is one of the last of her kind—part of a nearly extinct race of shape-shifters descended from guardians to the Egyptian pharaohs. Her home and her secret are threatened when the Council lowers the barrier, allowing the enemy race to enter the Shythe haven.
As the Narcolym airships approach, Dez and her friends rebel against their Council and secretly train for battle. Not only is Dez wary of war and her growing affection for her best friend Jace, but she fears the change her birthday will bring. When Dez’s newfound power rockets out of control, it’s a Narcolym who could change her fate… if she can trust him.
Dez’s guarded world crumbles when she discovers why the Narcos have really come to Haven Falls, and she's forced to choose between the race who raised her and the enemy she's feared her whole life.

My Review:
Dez is Kythan, the shape-shifter race descended from the guardians of ancient Egyptian pharaohs. More importantly, Dez is Shythe, the Kythan race that uses Charge power. She trains in secret with her friends Jace, Lana, and Nick, preparing for the day the Narcolym invade using their Flame power to destroy their home. But the Narcolym don't invade, they are invited to come and live among the Shythe in an effort to unite the races. Dez will have a lot to deal with her change coming on, the awkwardness surging with her best friend Jace, and a hot headed Narcolym who can't keep his eyes—and hands—off her.
Open the pages of Destiny's Fire to find a creatively built steampunk world, mythological creatures with incredible powers, a whole lot of action and deceit, and a more than steamy romance. Though the beginning starts off a little confusing with all the name dropping, different races, and different powers, the story quickly picks ups pace by the time we meet the first Narcolym. And boy, do things get interesting then! Reese might be a hothead, and his intentions might seem a little shady, but that boy can turn you into a melting puddle of blubbering fan girl with just a glance. Dez turns out to be a more than capable heroine. Not only she deals with the incredible power that comes with her change, but she also takes on Reese! As the plot thickens she'll prove just how courageous she is, and how ready to sacrifice herself for her family and friends.
From the Charge operated Cogs club, to the levibikes, airships, and Charge Sabers, this story will rock your world with its steampunkness! There's never a dull moment in Dez's story. And I absolutely loved how everything was incorporated, the steampunk, the mythology, and the pure fantasy. If you love any of the above, you're sure to like Destiny's Fire.
Favorite Quotes:
I was yanked up as Reese jerked the collar of my leather jacket, bringing my face close to his. He pulled back his fist, ready to land a blow…
I flashed him my violet eyes, and he froze, then tilted his head. "Dez?"
His grip loosened, and I wrenched free. I ran and jumped onto the ledge of the ship. Pulling the chain on my pack, I hurdled off the back of the airship behind Lana, Nick, and Jace—my glider wings spreading as I hit the open air.

As he prepared to send the finishing blow, I jumped into his arms and wrapped my legs around his waist. It worked; he was caught off guard. He stared at me wide-eyed as I clasped his face and twisted his head.
"You're dead."
Reese shot his head back around and grabbed my butt. "Best death ever." Then he kissed me.

His breath shuddered out against my lips, making me shiver. He dropped my arms, grasped my face, and pressed his lips to mine hard. Then he caressed my chest, feeling along the binding of my corset as his finger worked at the small clamps. When the stubborn bottom half wouldn't cooperate, he groaned and pulled the corset apart. "I'll buy you a new one." He pushed off the wall and carried me to the bed.
