I’ve battled the Reapers of Chaos before–and survived. But this time I have a Bad, Bad Feeling it’s going to be a fight to the death … most likely mine.

Yeah, I’ve got my psychometry magic, my talking sword, Vic–and even the most dangerous Spartan on campus at my side, in Logan freaking Quinn, but I’m no match for Loki, the evil Norse god of chaos. I may be Nike’s Champion, but at heart, I’m still just Gwen Frost, that weird Gypsy girl everyone at school loves to gossip about.

Then someone I love is put in more danger than ever before, and something inside me snaps. This time, Loki and his Reapers are going down for good … or I am.

Gwen’s fight against the Reapers is coming to an end. In a last attempt to stop them from healing Loki, the Protectorate puts the Curing Candle of Sol under heavy guard. But when the Reapers kidnap grandma Frost, Gwen must decide between following orders or doing what’s right in her heart. Armed with a candle, silver laurel leaves, a talking sword, a crazy plan, and a bunch of friends who will not let her do this alone, Gwen is ready to confront her enemies one last time.

Like I mentioned in my review of Midnight Frost, Gwen has really come a long way from where she started. I remember her being somewhat afraid of her powers, very unsure of herself and what she had to do. Trouble always came her way. Now she’s the one taking charge, taking risky gambles all to save those she loves. The title of Nike’s Champion is really hers.

That being said, the villains of the series really left me unimpressed most of the time. For all the fearsome tales about the Reapers, they came off quite lame and unoriginal in their nefarious plans. I don’t have examples of their fails in the other books, but in this one the SUV scene (totally saw that coming two books away) and the kidnapping (very expected) weren’t all that great. I guess I wanted them to be more evil? And in the final battle, I feel there were a lot of punches pulled. I wasn’t devastated by the losses. I didn’t feel them.

Gwen’s ending though was quite perfect. I can’t get into details, because I don’t want to spoil it. Let’s just say that Loki didn’t see that one coming and Vic played a really hard part. Also, Raven. I knew it!

Lastly, I’ve also mentioned this in my previous reviews, but favorite element of the series has definitely been all the mythologies Estep incorporated, and how she used them in the world. For example, the gods helping Gwen covertly, the artifacts of power, the creatures. It all makes for a very rich world. My only complaint is that we didn’t get any Egyptian or Asian myths.

It’s been a fun ride following the Mythos Academy series!

Favorite Quotes:
~A little fun~
“So,” he said. “Do you think we can talk about the Valentine’s Day dance now?”
“What’s there to talk about?”
“What time do you want me to pick you up, what color dress you’re wearing so I can get the right kind of corsage, where do you want to go to make out after the dance is over with.” Logan gave me a wink. “You know. All the usual stuff.”
I laughed. “You must be feeling pretty confident to say something like that.”
His grin widened. “Always.”

~The Horn of Roland~
One sweet, simple note drifted out of the horn, so soft that I thought I had only imagined it at first. Carson opened his eyes, drew back, and frowned, staring at the horn as if he was confused, as if it hadn’t done what he’d thought it would or what he wanted it to.
“Now would be a great time for you to use your music mojo to get us out of this!” I yelled at him, even as I battled a Reaper who was creeping up to his blind side.
