This week’s musing is…
Have you ever found a book out of the blue, read it, and then had it be surprisingly good-- one that stuck with you for years? If so, what book was it?
I actually have a couple of those. I guess I'll start with the book that set off my love for Fantasy lit and thus my love for reading. The book is Talking to Dragons (Book 4 of The Enchanted Forest Chronicles) by Patricia C. Wrede. I only picked it up because of my obsession with all things dragon, and the cover featured one. I was pleasantly surprised by the world in those pages and then, of course, I had to go back and find Books 1-3! Cimorene was the first badass heroine I encountered, and to this day I still remember her.
Another book I stumbled upon is Howl's Moving Castle (This was way before Hayao Miyazaki swooped in with his amazing movie). I picked it up because of the cover art (lol). I thought that something that had a moving castled had to be cool. And it is, but it's also so much more!. Sophie's journey is so touching, her romance with Howl is just so sweet, and Calcifer!! He's my favorite demon ever!
Last but so not least, is The Thief (The Queen's Thief Book 2). I ordered this during one of my "dry reading seasons" where I would run out of books to read, so I just started randomly ordering new ones, many which I ended up not liking that much. But this one was turned out to be better than good. It is GREAT. Gen is a thief, he was caught, and is now recruited by the king to steal a treasure from an opposing land. What I loved about this was the Greek/Roman hints to the world even though its a fantasy world. And then there's the twists and deceits and OMG the freaking ending!!! lol
